I got this for my 5 year old son a couple of weeks ago and he just loves it. It's so cool. A chess game that's... well, I would almost say dumbed down but that doesn't really describe it. It's more like it's been simplified enough such that it's instructional.
You get a deck of cards with the various pieces on them and descriptions of how they move. You then take turns drawing a card and moving the piece on that card. My son and I have now had 4 entertaining chess games and he's starting to get the hang of how the pieces move.
Joe went to his first Portland Beavers game at PGE Park this last Sunday. He didn't seem too overly impressed. In fact, he didn't watch the game at all and was asleep by the 5th inning.
There was a brief moment when Boomer (the mascot) came over to say hi to Joe. Gave Joe a hug and Joe was all excited... until Boomer left. Then Joe cried for a good minute. I think he wanted his new pal to stick around for a while.
He also got a little baseball bat and a baseball. Seems to like them quite a bit. (For now, I'm sure they'll become boring within a week. That seems to be the about the average lifespan for the average toy...)
